Reflection

About The Course

Using the structure of a pilgrimage as our guide, this course invites the student to explore universal themes like fear, forgiveness, and letting go through meditation, writing practice, focused readings, and discussions.

These practices serve as powerful tools for discovery and healing, but participants don’t need to be a writer or have prior meditation experience to benefit from this offering.

About Your Guide

Katie Allen, MA

Katie is a writer and certified Mindfulness Meditation instructor, having completed a 2-year training through UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, Sounds True, and the Awareness Training Institute.

She holds a Master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and has taught in the US, France, Saudi Arabia, and Senegal.

Katie’s work is deeply informed by her personal journeys, including her grief pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago in 2023, where she walked 500 miles over 5 weeks. You can read her newsletter Pilgrimage & Presence here, which includes mindful musings and tales from the Camino.

With 15 years of teaching experience, including 4 years of "edu-preneurship" outside of academia, Katie has guided many students toward clarity, growth, and transformation through various writing and mindfulness practices. She has also hosted multiple week-long retreats in the mountains and deserts of Southern California.

Katie created The Inner Pilgrimage to share the mindfulness practices—writing, meditation, and walking—that have been instrumental in her own self-discovery and healing. These practices have helped her grow in awareness and self-compassion, reduce stress and anxiety, and navigate the challenges of living with ADHD and depression.

Most importantly, Katie believes in the transformative power of doing this work together, in community, where connection amplifies growth. Having unlearned much of the rugged individualism she’s inherited through many of these practices, she’s committed to creating safe and supportive spaces for others would are drawn to doing the same—to waking up to this life, seeing more clearly, and living with greater presence, joy, and connection.
